This may be one of the most well-documented houses! We have records of every major purchase or upgrade, which provides a detailed history of the house. For now, let's start at the beginning. Here's a slide show of the foundations being built in 1954. Yes, we also have the architectural drawings, but they are not digitized. As you view these slides, notice the double-studded walls in the bathroom. Are the doubly-protected cement blocks obvious? Certainly the care of the workmen, and the attention of the owner, are obvious. Most of all, one sees this house is solidly built, and on sound foundations. Enjoy!

Closely Crafted
Designed by Lisl and Win Close, 1572 Fulham Street was featured in a 2006 booklet by Colin Kloecker and Tom Trow about Close Homes in the Grove. To read more about Win and Lisl, check out the articles archived on CloseHomes.Org
If you're not familiar with University Grove, which borders St. Anthony Park, you may want to check out this website, and particularly this page on purchasing a home in the Grove. Homes in the Grove are "open to all University employees eligible for the faculty retirement plan or a federal retirement plan." The land is leased from the University. Current terms of the lease are 40 years, with one renewal, at $100/year. This arrangement makes a home in the Grove an important part of the University's recruitment of qualified personnel, and a valuable perk for University employees.

Amenities Abound
Three bedrooms and a bath upstairs, and two bedrooms and a bath downstairs highlight this home full of amenities. Upstairs, a kitchen with modern appliances, a dining room augmented by art and nature, a living room big enough for a baby grand, and a study with walls of shelves and built-in cabinets - all unite to make a homey refuge, or a social salon. Downstairs, a family room, a wood workshop, and a garage, plus plenty of closet and storage space, complete the living quarters that can fit family needs from nine months to ninety.
Owned by the same family since 1954, this home also hosts several owner-inspired treasures. For instance, how many homes have a photographic darkroom? The digital age may not need this - but you might appreciate the 220-volt electricity, and ample water hook-ups, or just the extra closet space, that this room provides. A playroom that fits ping-pong or pool, or a guest suite that provides comfort and privacy - how you use the downstairs is up to you, but you will not be disappointed. Did we mention the double-coated cinder block foundation, that keeps the downstairs cool in summer, and dry all year round?
Upstairs, several design features provide privacy and protection. Double-studded bathroom walls ensure sounds of silence, and minimize bath vapors. Washer and dryer locations make cleaning convenient. Doors separate living from sleeping quarters. All these features ensure full enjoyment of both public and private spaces, by both owners and guests.
Other amenities? Skylights in the bathroom and study add light and spaciousness. Cabinets added to the kitchen maximize space, yet allow cooks to converse with family and guests. Did we mention the two-sided fireplace? Visible from both dining and living rooms, this fireplace provides the ambiance that makes any wintry evening enjoyable. And in the summer, or spring, or fall, the patio in back and the wide-open views overlooking it makes entertaining a joy. All in all, we're sure you'll agree - this home abounds with amenities!

Second Sights
From its oak-shaded entrance, to it's garden and patio out back, this split-level home is a naturalist's delight. Inside, the rich warm wood of mahogany surrounds you; outside, well-insulated redwood protects you; through-out, light and air and ambiance flow in architecturally-designed openness. Upstairs bedrooms overlook a tree-lined boulevard, while kitchen, dining, and living rooms overlook gardens and open space in back. Take advantage of the woodsy views and the flowery accents, and your inner naturalist will be fulfilled.
